It was a busy weekend for credit unions and for over 25,000 primary school children under the age of 13 who competed in their local credit union schools quiz throughout the 32 counties, in over 300 venues. The questions, compiled nationally by primary school teachers covered such general topics as geography, history, music, literature and sport. Tralee Credit Union held their Noreen Lynch Annual Schools Quiz on Sunday 31st of February in the Brandon Hotel Conference Centre, Tralee. This year, 164 students participated in their Quiz representing 23 primary schools throughout Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin and surrounding areas. Speaking to Suzanne Ennis, Marketing & Business Development Manager with Tralee Credit Union, “We had great support again this year from all the schools who battled it out for the fun filled action packed two and a half hours. Our thanks to all the schools, students and their families and of course to Tralee Credit Union’s staff for making this event one of the biggest events on the school calendar.” It was very tight scores between all the schools but at the end there were clear 1st place winners in the Under 11s with Listellick National School, Tralee coming first. After two tie breaking rounds for 2nd and 3rd place, Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn Tralee won the second tie break giving them 2nd place and Spa National School, Tralee 3rd place. In the under 13s category, there were clear 3rdplace winners again with Spa National School. The battle for 1st and 2nd went through two tie breaking rounds between Scoil Mhuire, Killorglin and Scoil Eoin, Balloonagh, Tralee. At the end of the second Tie Breaker, Scoil Mhuire won the tie break, giving them 1st place and Scoil Eoin, Balloonagh 2nd place. The team from Scoil Mhuire although now in the Under 13s category are the reigning under 11s All Ireland National Champions having coming first last year at the National Final of the Credit Unions Schools Quiz in Dublin. Suzanne Ennis said “All the teams were presented with goody bags with the winning teams and their schools each receiving trophies and cash prizes. Our 1st and 2nd place winners in both categories will now go on to represent Tralee Credit Union at the next stage of Credit Unions Schools Quiz, the Chapter (regional) round of the National Schools Quiz on Sunday 28th of February at Ballyroe Heights Hotel. We wish Listellick National School, Scoil Mhuire, Killorglin, Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn and Scoil Eoin, Balloonagh the very best of luck at the Chapter round.”
