Kerry College graduate Dawn has officially been attested as a sworn member of An Garda Síochána, demonstrating the power of Further Education and Training in achieving career goals.
After completing her Leaving Certificate at Mercy Mounthawk in 2022, Dawn enrolled in Kerry College’s Pre-Garda (Legal Studies) course at Clash Road Campus to gain insight into policing.
“I had no prior experience, so the course helped me explore the job in depth and build confidence before applying,” she explained.
Passionate about helping people and drawn to the dynamic nature of policing, Dawn was eager to join An Garda Síochána. She valued the variety of challenges each shift presents and the opportunities for skill development across different areas of law enforcement.
Her time at Kerry College provided a strong foundation in legal studies, along with real-world experiences such as visits to Garda College and Limerick Prison, which deepened her understanding of the role.
“Kerry College is committed to career-focused education that prepares learners for real-world employment,” said Stephen Goulding, Principal of Kerry College. “Dawn’s success highlights how the Pre-Garda course helps students transition seamlessly into law enforcement.”
Now stationed in Dublin as a probationary Garda, Dawn reflected on her rapid career progression: “Less than a year ago, I was working in retail. Now, I’m a sworn Garda.”
