Kerry County Council’s Creative Ireland Kerry programme, supported by the Arts Office, is thrilled to announce that Jesse Gilbert will return as the Creative Ireland Kerry Filmmaker in Residence for 2025. This initiative stems from public consultation in 2023/’24, where a strong interest in filmmaking was highlighted, particularly among young people.
Emma Carmody, Creative Communities Engagement Officer, noted, “A high percentage of young people expressed a keen interest in learning more about filmmaking. Creativity for screen resonates with them.”
Due to high demand, those interested in working with Jesse are encouraged to register early at arts@kerrycoco.ie or by calling 066 7183541. The residency model enables Jesse to conduct workshops, masterclasses, and one-on-one sessions across the county.
His focus will be on developing long-term filmmaking pathways, including workshops for transition year students and collaboration with SONAR, one of only six youth filmmaking groups in Ireland. SONAR has gained national recognition for its films and is free to join for those under 18.
Jesse will also deliver workshops and clinics for the broader community. “I look forward to sharing knowledge and the joy of filmmaking,” he said.
Kate Kennelly, Arts Officer & Creative Ireland Coordinator, emphasized the importance of the programme, stating, “The residency supports mentoring, beginner classes, and high creative standards across all ages.”
